Privacy Policy — MohtarmaKnows

MohtarmaKnows ("the App"), published by Ibtidaa Tech, is a learning app: quizzes, reading cards, a dictionary and revision tools. This policy explains what information the App collects, why, and how it is used.

Information you provide directly

When you sign in and set up your profile, we collect:

• Required: your name and state
• Optional: date of birth, mobile number, city, pincode, gender, and a username
• Your email address and display name, and your profile picture if your Google account has one (from Google Sign-In, or the email address you register with)

You may leave any optional field blank. The App remains fully usable without them.

Location

The App may ask for your location. If you allow it, we store your approximate coordinates, a place name (for example "Mumbai, Maharashtra") and your time zone, which are used to show your local time and to group leaderboards by region.

This is optional. If you decline, every other part of the App continues to work. You can change the permission at any time in your device settings.

Information collected automatically

• Your learning activity — which questions you answer, whether each was correct, how many attempts you took, and your cumulative score, streak and progress counters
• Your in-app counters: brain cells (which can be spent on hints and streak freezes) and IQbits (a score that only ever goes up)
• Basic authentication data managed by Firebase Authentication (Google Sign-In, or email and password)
• When you last opened the App. A timestamp is recorded while you are using the App — at most once every few minutes, not continuously — and is shown next to your name on the leaderboard as a coloured dot and a phrase such as "Active 3 hours ago". Other users of the App can see it. It records only when, never what you were doing or where you were.
• If you enable notifications, a device notification token, so reminders can reach your device. Reminders are scheduled on your device itself; you can turn them off in the App or in your device settings.

AI-generated explanations

If you tap "Explain more" or "Explain with AI" on a question, the question text and its answer options are sent to an AI provider to generate a plain-language explanation. Depending on availability, that provider is Google Gemini, Groq, or OpenRouter; each request goes to whichever is reachable at the time.

The explanation is then stored and reused for everyone who views that same question, so most questions never need a second AI request.

No personal information is sent with these requests. Only the question and its options. Your name, email, location and progress are never included.

How your information is used

• To create and maintain your account, your progress and your streak
• To show your dashboard, your rankings and where you are losing marks
• To show other learners whether you were recently active, on the leaderboard
• To generate AI explanations for questions, as described above
• To send you learning reminders, if you have enabled notifications

We do not sell your personal information. The App does not display third-party ads.

Promotional email

We will only email you about new features, content or offers if you have explicitly opted in. That setting is off by default and is a separate checkbox from signing up — creating an account does not subscribe you to anything. You can turn it off at any time from your profile, and every promotional email includes an unsubscribe link.

Service messages — a password reset, a change to these terms, something wrong with your account — are sent regardless, because they are part of running the account.

Where your data is stored

All data is stored on Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Firebase Authentication), a service operated by Google under its own security and privacy standards. Questions and content are also cached locally on your device so the App works offline; that local cache holds content only, not personal profile data.

Your choices

• Optional profile fields can be left blank or edited at any time from your dashboard.
• Location can be declined or revoked in your device settings.
• Notifications can be turned off in the App or in your device settings.
• Promotional email is off unless you opt in, and can be switched off again at any time.
• You can sign out at any time from the profile screen.
• You can request deletion of your account and its data from within the App, or by emailing us at the address below.

Children's privacy

The App is intended for a general audience of learners aged 16 and over. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has created an account, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes will also be shown in the App.
